Program Reports
Dance (Joyce Goslee) - season has been wrapped up and will have next registration beginning in September
Youth Softball (Roy Dillow) - Season just ended. The 9/10 age group took the championship. The 11/13 age group took 2nd place. Currently looking into Fall Softball which will consist of approximately 16 games taking place between end of August or beginning of September and run through end of October.
Soccer (Bob Astarita) - Everything running smoothly. Registration has ended. An extra 30-35 kids have signed up for travel. There are approximately 185 kids enrolled in rec. and travel combined.
Scuba (Mike Haslup) - program is finished for the year. The program worked with 19 boy scouts and will be doing more in the future with the club.
Girls Lacrosse (Kay Lambert) - Tournaments are done. The 7/8 team made it to the semi-finals. Kay received lots of good comments about the North Harford teams from other coaches. Rob Bailey suggested Kay put in a small grant request for adding more goals so Rec. lacrosse would not have to be so dependent on the High School for their goals. The request is due by June, but process would take approximately 1 year. In addition, research will need to be completed for a storage unit for the goals. It will need to be approximately 10x12 w/ double doors and windows for ventilation. Placement of shed was suggested to be next to the one at the High School.
Girls Basketball ( Linda Heaps) - Sign ups will begin in October.
Karate (Don Hoopes) - program a little slow due to summer. Don and another black-belt will be teaching a 3hr. Self defense class at the University of Maryland.
Rob Bailey (Harford County Rec. Councils) -
* Facility requests for the upcoming year have been submitted for all 3 schools. Inventories need turned in and kept current as inventories change. The next Recreation Council President’s meeting will be held in September. Budgets need to be submitted at this time.
* Boys Basketball is in need of a chairperson. In the meantime, Rob will put in for facility space based on the past year’s needs. Strong volunteers are needed to give the basketball program a boost.
* Family Swim is also looking for a chairperson.
* There is some confusion with the Tuesday night Scuba lessons. Rob will contact Joe Thomas and clarify. In the interim, Mike Haslup and Julie have been taking care of the program and also run the Friday’s program.
New Business
* Congratulations and thanks to Bob Astarita. He has taken over the soccer program from Mark Wettig. Many thanks go to Mark for running a great program.
* Meetings are now set for the 3rd Wednesday of each Month. Next meeting is Sept. 21, 2005 at 7:15pm.
* An issue was brought up in regards to the NHES pavilion area. Access is limited. When it rains, the pathway is washed out. Plans are to have it paved this summer. Build up of trash is also an issue. Rob is working with the Elementary school concerning this issue so that they will take the initiative after their school events to clean up.
* Election of Officers - Don Hoopes (president) and Russell Yurek (treasurer) to continue in their current roles. Dianna Skrocki nominated for Secretary. Still in need of a Vice President. Bob Astarita has volunteered to stand in as Vice President in the interim. All officers approved.
