Meeting Minutes -
3/21/07
In Attendance: Don Hoopes, Bob Astarita, Russ Yurek, Dianna Skrocki, Rob Bailey,
Tim Rickey, Mike Haslup, Karen Sturtevant, Charlie Dawson, Karen Dawson, and
Tom Hebert.
President’s Report: Don Hoopes
* A count of those
attending the annual dinner needs to be given to Russ Yurek by the
end of the month.
* Just a reminder to make
sure all facilities used for practices/games, especially
Saturdays, are cleaned up and left as they were found
or better.
Treasurers Report: Russell Yurek
* Current net worth
of $101,962.23.
* All programs are in good
shape.
Vice Presidents Report: Bob Astarita
* Opening day for
Baseball, Softball and Girls Lacrosse is April 21st at 9am. A good
group of volunteers has
been working hard on the details of the day.
Karen Dawson
presented a rough draft
of the agenda which included the details of the parade, basket
raffle, food
concessions, team announcements and other activities. Bob has already
contacted the State
Police for the road closure and is still looking to set up a canine
demonstration. Tammy Yurek will be handling the basket
raffle. Hickory Dicks will
be handling the food
and will donate close to 100% of the profits to be split between
the programs. They are currently looking for an
alternative to using the Highland
Field for Softball in
order to keep all the games at the North Harford School fields.
* Bob has volunteered to
take over as the field coordinator.
Old Business
* The minutes from the
February meeting were accepted.
* The Land Acquisition
Committee has nothing definite to report at this time, but more
conversations are
currently going on. More will be
reported at the next meeting.
Program Reports
Girl‘s Lax (Tim Rickey) - program is
now under way. Games will begin March
31st. Schedules should be
out on Friday. Each age group has a
team and the clinic has a total of 15 girls.
Will be trying to recruit more 9 year olds for the program. The York Travel Team has purchased new
uniforms.
Soccer (Bob Astarita) - registration will be in May.
Softball (Bob Astarita) - currently
still looking for a chairperson, the teams are in place.
Baseball (Bob Astarita) - just getting
started. Uniforms and equipment have
been ordered.
Adult Basketball (Tom Hebert) - doing well with 12-13 on each day, two days a week.
Karate (Don Hoopes) - currently have 15-20 students. Four purple belts have advanced to blue belts
and 2 white belts have advanced to yellow belts.
Afternoon Fitness Swim (Karen Sturtevant) - has a total
of 25 swimmers. Looking to possibly go
from 2 days a week to 3 days a week starting in the fall. Looking at Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Rob advised Karen to fill out the Northern
District Facility Request form to follow up on this request.
Football (Charlie Dawson) - will add
another 2 registration dates due to the snow from the first registration. Currently have 57 signed up. (17 for clinic
ages 5-7, 13 for ages 7-8, 13 for ages 9-11 and 14 for ages 10-12) Charlie will put in a request to use the
practice field behind the High School for use for games. At this time the lighting may be borrowed
from Comer or Dixie Construction. If
need be they can also rent the lights from Bay Country Rentals. The program is looking to get affiliated
with the Maryland Sting semi-pro team out of Rising Sun. They will have their final approval for the
program from HB Football by April 23rd.
Rob Bailey (Parks & Rec) -
* Any 2007/08 facility
requests need to be in by the May meeting.
* A Port-A-Pot will be
placed at the Highland School from this Friday or Monday for 3 months. The charge is $80/mo. And $45 for any extra
services needed. (i.e. tipping)
* Mike Getz and Rob Bailey
will both be attending the April meeting and then only Mike Getz going
forward. Please make sure that all
requests go through Mike beginning with the April meeting. He can be reached at 410-692-7820.
* The pool at the Middle School
will be going through maintenance during the summer and therefore will not be
available for use. This will begin
approx. June 18th.
New Business
* According the the NH
Rec. bylaws, the council has asked for volunteers for the Nominating Committee for
next year’s officers. Tim Rickey and
Charlie Dawson have volunteered to actively search for members of the community
that are involved with the Recreation Programs that may want to run for any of
the officer positions. Nominations will
be made at the April meeting and a vote will be taken during the May
meeting.
THE NEXT MEETING WILL BE WEDNESDAY, April18th, at
7:15PM.
