North Harford Recreation Council
Meeting Minutes - 10/19/05
In Attendance: Rob Bailey, Don Hoopes, Russ Yurek, Dianna Skrocki, Bob Astarita, Tom Hebert, Joyce Goslee, Mike Haslup, Julie Schott , Kay Lambert, and Tim Rickey.
President’s Report: Don Hoopes
* Plans are in the works to rebuild the restrooms at Jarrettsville Rec., to replace
the pavilion at Friends Park and to add Heating and AC at Eden Mill.
* Annie’s playground is almost complete
Treasurers Report: Russell Yurek
* Current net worth of almost $67,000
* The new By-Laws include an increased head tax of $5 per person/child.
Vice Presidents Report: Bob Astarita
* Bob will take on the website project. His soccer webmaster has offered to create a site
for the Rec. Council. A few concerns were how fast information could be posted or
changed and can it be linked to the County website. Cost would be $500 to build the
site and $100/month to maintain the site. Bob will put together a total proposal and
present at the November meeting.
Old Business
* The minutes from the September meeting were accepted
* IRS Report - all letters were sent to the Rec. Council’s lawyers and a verbal “ok” from
the IRS auditor has been given. Currently waiting for the approval in writing.
* We will be getting a $2500 small grant for use on various projects
Program Reports
Dance (Joyce Goslee) - 72 dancers are enrolled and classes are full. Uno’s fund raiser did not do as well as expected. Nov. 14th from 5pm - 9pm another fund raiser will be held at Pizza Hut in Forest Hill.
Soccer (Bob Astarita) - The travel teams are doing well and will probably be expanding. Joe Corbi’s fund raiser cleared $2500 for the program.
Scuba (Mike Haslup & Julie Schott) - currently have 11 students. They are trying to contact 8 Discover students to start. A class of 6 signed up for January. Fridays are currently a little slow. Mike expressed his thanks to Rob Bailey for getting the program pool time at Magnolia. Everything went smooth and they were treated very well by the Magnolia staff.
Girls Lacrosse (Kay Lambert) - Early registration will be Saturday, Nov. 5th from 10am - 12pm. Registration can also be mailed in from the form posted on the website. An indoor program at Just 4 Kids will start in January.
Adult Basketball ( Tom Hebert) - Doing well. Currently have 16 registered.
Karate (Don Hoopes) - Doing very well. Currently have 27 students registered. There are 2 additional black-belts assisting Don.
Rob Bailey (Harford County Rec. Councils) -
* Swim programs are now up and running.
* Suggestion made for Afternoon Swimming to register people for 1 session instead of 2.
* Rob is looking for Softball and Baseball registration dates.
* Wrestling is interested in hosting a tournament. Christine will be meeting with them
on Thursday, October 27th.
* The Northern Region Soccer League will be having their tournament Nov.12th & 13th.

New Business
* NH area Rec. Council - currently looking for a minimum of 40 acres for this project.
Tim Rickey offered to head up a Land Acquisition committee and offered his services
for the duration of this project. Bob Astarita, Dianna Skrocki and Russ Yurek offered
to assist Tim in this project.
* Next meeting will be Wednesday, November 16th at 7:15pm.
