Program Reports
Dance (Joyce Goslee) - going well. They received a discount on costumes for ordering early. The High School will now be an option for
this year’s recital. They will have
more background and lighting options to choose from which is necessary for a
good video of the performance. They
will meet before making a final decision.
Karate (Don Hoopes) - going well,
still have approx. 20 students.
Football (Charlie Dawson) - 10/12 team
won the championships and the 11/13 team lost in overtime. Registration will start at the end of March. Looking to get a little more turf usage this
year. The High School will be replacing
the bleachers and press box. The coach
was looking for assistance in tearing down the visitor’s bleachers as well and
replace them with a building.
Baseball (Walt Zdon) - Registration
is going well. Currently have 112 and
look to end up with approx. 130. Will
be starting at least one travel team in the U-12 age group.
Soccer (Bob Astarita) - Rec. season
has wrapped up. Currently have approx 400 players involved in the Chissl
program. The games will be held at
Cedar Lane. The Greater Harford Soccer
program joined Northern Elite.
Softball (George Dawson) - Have 37
registered at this time and still getting calls. All new equipment was purchased last year, so they will only need
uniforms for this year. April 18th
is the tentative date for Opening Day.
They will be scheduling a planning meeting soon.
Scuba (Mike Haslup) - has been
slow due to the lack of pool time. Have
been getting less than an hour because the high school has been running late
with their practices.
Girl’s Lax (Tim Rickey) - Currently
have 80 registered with more coming.
The 13/14 age group only had 9 sign-ups and so did Jarrettsville as
well. Both teams will combine and go
under MYLA. Tim attended the US LAX National Convention in which he attended
several seminars. He suggested that the
Positive Coaching Alliance may be something
we would look to participate in. Cedar
Lane will be hosting many large tournaments which will be a great benefit for
Harford County Lacrosse.
Boy’s Basketball - currently in
mid-season with 100 participants. Have
been playing at the High School.
Mike Getz (Parks & Rec) - Mike will be getting together an updated contact and email list. The meeting for the turf field Spring usage scheduling will be held in a few weeks. After the High School has finalized their schedule, Mike will hold a meeting for the other programs to schedule usage for the Rec. Council. Any outside activities/groups need to go through Mike in order to use the field. Any programs that need flyers sent out through the schools need to get their info. to Mike.
New Business
* The Neptunes are looking
for a new head coach and team board.
They work under the North Harford Swim Club, but are looking to schedule
pool time at the middle school.
* A proposal was submitted
to bring a Cheerleading Program to NH Rec.
Markieta, Kelly and Bessy presented their proposal and gave a program
overview. They would like to begin with
football and possibly move to add basketball after the program is
established. A motion was made and
passed to accept the program. Finding
practice space should not be an issue.
THE NEXT MEETING WILL BE WEDNESDAY, Feb. 18st, at
7:00PM at the NHES Parks & Rec. Office.
