Meeting Minutes - 1/16/08

 

In Attendance:  Don Hoopes, Russ Yurek, Dianna Skrocki, Bob Astartita, Charles Blair, Tom Hebert, George Dawson, Linda Heaps, Walt Zdon, Christy Avig, Charlie Dawson, Joyce Goslee, Debbie Hess and Ron Ruark

 

President’s Report: Don Hoopes

*  The president meeting is not until this upcoming Monday, so no President’s report is available at this time.  Don received an email on training for coaches and chairpersons.  He will forward this to those it applies to.  He will have a report on the capitol budget at the next meeting.

 

Treasurers Report: Russell Yurek 

*  Current net worth of  $123,701.

*  Nov. and Dec. spreadsheets are available. 

*  $13,000 was transferred for the Chissl program from Havre de Grace.

*  All programs are in good shape.

 

Vice Presidents Report: Bob Astarita

*  Letters for the elementary school sign are in the rec.office cabinet.

*  Contact Bob if you need the code for the copier.

 

Old Business/Committee Updates:

*  The minutes from the October meeting were accepted.

    

Program Reports:

 

Coed Volleyball (Chuck Blair) - program is doing well.  He has been coordinating gym time with John Weigand.

 

Wrestling (Christy Avig) - Currently only have a total of 12 participants.  They lost a lot of them to High School.  Middle School registration was way down and at this time they do not have enough registered to participate in this year’s tournament.

 

Baseball (Walt Zdon)  - Have held 3 registrations so far.  Registration is down compared to last year.  Picture date is scheduled and the committee is ready to meet to coordinate opening day.  They are looking at new uniforms for this year.

 

Softball (George Dawson) - Have held 3 registrations so far and another is scheduled for this Saturday.  Currently only have 2 (14-18 age group), but expect to have more after High School tryouts.  April 19th is opening day.  The coaches are set and ready to go.

 

Girl’s Basketball (Linda Heaps) - need to look into getting the referees more training.  Have also had issues with High School players playing on the rec. teams.  Don will address this at the president’s meeting.

 

Soccer (Bob Astarita) - picked up 2 more girl’s travel teams.  Cedar Lane fields are available to rent for $50/hr for the turf fields.

 

Dance (Joyce Goslee& Deb Hess)  - they have been up and running since Nov. and they have 78 registered.  They have 4 teachers and run 4 nights a week.  The recital is currently scheduled to be held at the High School on May 31st with a rehearsal date of May 30th.

 

Adult Basketball (Tom Hebert) - program is doing well.

 

Karate (Don Hoopes) - currently have 15 students. 3 of his students advanced from green to brown belt in December and are now on their way to black belt.

 

Football (Charlie Dawson) - 1st registration is scheduled for March 15th.

 

Mike Getz (Parks & Rec) -

*  Mike was unable to attend the meeting.

 

New Business:

*  Bob suggested that we postpone the $30/mo. maintenance contract for the new copier at least until after the 1st year.  Bob will talk to the copier rep. to remedy this.

*  Bob will also purchase 2 signs ($79ea.) to put outside of the rec. office to point out where to go for registration.  The signs will read: Parks & Rec. Program Registration.
